HEALING PEDAGOGY
Sometimes there may be major obstacles on the path to growth and learning. In such cases, education centres around joy and the connection between the educator and the growing young person.
Healing pedagogy has been developed to support the growth, development and learning of pupils who need special support.
The basic idea of healing pedagogy is that the self that makes a person who they are is always intact, but its vehicle of expression may be impaired or limited. Healing pedagogy always tries to identify and appeal to the individual qualities of each pupil.
There are three special schools practising Steiner Waldorf pedagogy in Finland. Their curricula are adapted according to the capabilities and potential of each pupil. All the pupils in these schools are entitled to extended compulsory education.
